Tuesday 22 October 2013 – Houses of Parliament, SW1A 0AA
The inaugural Gas Industry Safety Week is hosted by Andrew Bingham MP and follows on from the Gas Safe Register’s Gas Safety Week, which will be held 16 – 22 September 2013. The event will not only be an opportunity to hear from key industry safety experts but also to visit our exhibition stands where you will be able to see some of the work that our industry undertakes to keep people living and working safely.
Yesterday (22 October 2013) the Shadow Minister for Work and Pensions, Rt. Hon Stephen Timms MP, launched the first annual Gas Industry Safety Week (GISW) in the Houses of Parliament. GISW showcases the initiatives that are put in place by the Gas industry to keep employees and the general public gas safe.
High Peak MP Andrew Bingham hosted the launch, during which attendees heard from Shadow Minister Rt. Hon Stephen Timms MP as well as senior representatives from Ofgem, Health and Safety Executive, and the Gas Safe Register.
The inaugural Gas Industry Safety Week, 21 - 25 October 2013, will be sponsored by The Gas Industry Safety Group (GISG). During the week GISG members - key players in the gas industry – will be working together to promote active safety programmes, and highlight the focus of safety in the industry.
Employees throughout the sector will be engaging in internal safety initiatives to highlight different aspects of safety. Topics covered will include: carbon monoxide poisoning, street works, utility strike avoidance and personal protective equipment.
GISG Chairman, Chris Bielby MBE said:
“The Gas Industry Safety Week is a great opportunity to show the innovation and good practice that make the gas industry a leader in public utility safety initiatives, that not only protect those who work in the industry but also the general public.”
Shadow Minister for Health and Safety, Stephen Timms MP said:
“The Gas Industry Safety Week launch demonstrates that safety for employees and the people they protect is key to the gas industry. Seeing the initiatives on show demonstrated to me the hard work GISG and its members put into keeping the industry safe... I am committed to the view that all the regulation on gas safety should be up to date."
