Barry Sheerman MP announces new gas safety awards for 2010

On Wednesday 7th October Barry Sheerman MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Gas Safety Group, announced a prestigious new gas safety awards ceremony to take place late in 2010.

Speaking at the annual Energy Industry Safety, Health and Environment Reception, hosted by Energy Networks Association (ENA) and supported by the Gas Industry Safety Group (GISG), Mr Sheerman announced the forthcoming awards will highlight a 'decade of excellence'.

GISG Charirman Chris Bielby said: "2010 is a significant year for safety throughout the gas sector, with GISG celebrating the 10th anniversary of its formation. Since 2000, this independent group of experts has commissioned numerous pieces of useful safety research and made significant contributions to establish good working practices and a 'safety conscience' across the sector."

The group will co-ordinate the nominations and judging process, culminating in GISG's decennary dinner and awards ceremony at one of London's leading venues. GISG expects many nominations from the various sectors of the gas industry and these will be judged by a panel including members of the All Party Parliamentary Gas Safety Group, GISG, ENA and other leading gas safety specialists.
