GISG sponsors theatre at Yorkshire charity event

The gas industry has joined forces with the theatre world to help raise money for Yorkshire charities.

 

The Gas Industry Safety Group (GISG) provided sponsorship for a charity variety show held on Yorkshire Day, August 1st. The event, organised by Barry Sheerman MP, was to raise funds for four local charities including Carbon Monoxide awareness charity, the Dominic Rodgers Trust.

 

The entertainment and venue were sponsored by a number of organisations with all ticket proceeds donated to the charities. GISG’s £1,000 sponsorship paid for the all important theatre for the evening.

 

Chris Bielby, the GISG Chairman, stated “Among the main objectives ofGISG are promoting gas safety and ensuring the safety of consumers and the public. Sponsoring a worthwhile event like thishelps toachieve these through the great work done by the Dominic Rodgers Trust.”

 

Stacey Rodgers, President of the Dominic Rodgers Trust stated “Thank you to GISG for sponsoring this event. It is vital that we keep the awareness in the public eye, with on going events such as Yorkshire day, it was a great turn out, with a lot of talent that we saw on the stage, from all around Yorkshire”

The Gas Industry Safety Group - GISG - brings the principal organisations in the UK industry together to promote gas safety. Members include shippers/suppliers, network operators, manufacturers, infrastructure providers and contractors. Formed in 2000, GISG aims to promote gas safety by improving co-operation amongst the industry players, dissemination of best practice and providing a forum for them to address safety issues collectively.

 

The Dominic Rodgers Trust - Since the death of her son to Carbon Monoxide poisoning, Stacey Rodgers has worked tirelessly campaigning locally in Huddersfield and nationally for greater awareness of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. The Dominic Rodgers Trust is now a registered charity.

 

Yorkshire Day is celebrated on the 1st August each year to promote the historic English county of Yorkshire and is the anniversary of the Battle of Minden which was in 1759. It is also a celebration of Lammas a harvest festival when the first bread was made from the new corn. Yorkshire Day was revived in 1975 by the Yorkshire Ridings Society.
