British Gas
British Gas was established in 1986 (privatisation) and is part of Centrica. It has 28,000 employees, and in ‘The Sunday Times Top 25 Best Big Companies to Work for 2010’. British Gas supplies gas and electricity to UK residential and business customers and provides central heating and gas appliance installation, maintenance, low-carbon and energy efficient products, as well as offering a wide range of insurance-backed products, including cover for central heating breakdown, gas and kitchen appliances, home electrical, plumbing and drains, water supply pipe and home energy. Energy Networks Association
Energy Networks Association (ENA) represents the interests of its member companies who operate the national and regional networks for energy to transport gas and electricity into UK homes and businesses.
ENA's overriding goals are to promote the UK energy networks and enable our networks to be the safest, most reliable, most efficient and sustainable in the world. It aims to influence decision-makers on issues that are common to its interests.
Gas Forum
Established in 1994, the Gas Forum acts as a body that represents the views of gas shippers and suppliers active in the GB market. The Forum now counts among its membership virtually every significant GB gas shipper and gas supplier. The Gas Forum is now a substantial body, respected and consulted regularly by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, Ofgem, National Grid and others.
The Gas Forum offers numerous benefits and services to companies either already active (or planning to participate) in the downstream gas industry.
The Gas Forum prides itself on the fact that it not only encompasses the larger players in the gas market but also includes amongst its membership smaller players ensuring that all voices are heard and therefore represented to both the Regulator and Government bodies.
Gas Safety Trust
The Gas Safety Trust is the U.K’s leading gas/fuel safety charity providing grant funding to a wide variety of organisations, charities and associations in the areas of; research and training and education and also undertakes evidence gathering and advocacy work to promote gas/fuel safety developments. The Gas Safety Trust aims to work in partnership with as many organisations as possible to ensure that the gas/fuel safety agenda is kept at the fore and that cohesive and effective strategies are delivered. The Trust is looking to gain the support of the energy sector in a variety of ways to ensure mutual benefits and objectives are met.
National Grid
National Grid is an international electricity and gas company and one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the world. It plays a vital role in delivering gas and electricity to many millions of people across Great Britain and north-eastern US in an efficient, reliable and safe manner. National Grid's Gas Distribution UK segment comprises four of the eight regional gas distribution networks in Great Britain. Its' networks comprise approximately 132,000 kilometres of gas distribution pipelines and transports gas on behalf of approximately 25 active gas shippers from the gas national transmission system to around 10.8 million consumers. National Grid also manages the national gas emergency number (0800 111 999) for all the gas distribution networks and for other transporters in the UK. During 2008/09, it handled approximately 2 million calls to the national gas emergency number and a further 1.4 million calls to the enquiries line, appliance repair helpline and meter number enquiry service.
It owns and operates the gas national transmission system in Great Britain. This comprises approximately 7,600 kilometres of high pressure pipe and 26 compressor stations, connecting to 8 distribution networks and to third party independent systems for onward transportation of gas to end consumers. Day-to-day operation includes balancing supply and demand, maintaining satisfactory system pressures and ensuring gas quality standards are met. National Grid also owns and operates a number of liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage facilities in Great Britain.
Scotia Gas Networks
Scotia Gas Networks (SGN) is the UK's second largest gas distribution company, operating two of the largest gas networks. Formed in June 2005, it provides a safe and secure supply of natural gas to some 5.7 million customers through 74,000km of gas mains and services. SGN is committed to operating to the highest standards of safety, reliability and efficiency and continually strives to deliver excellent customer service in all areas of its business. It was recently awarded a gold medal for achieving six consecutive Gold RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards. Also this year, SGN were proud to be awarded the accolade of becoming the gas industry's Company of the Year 2010. Both were a testament to the dedication and hard work of all employees.

Established in 1992, ATL is one of the UK's largest providers of Building Services training, training over 5,000 engineers a year. From 5 centres, ATL provides a comprehensive range of building services training and support, including the complete range of plumbing, electrical and gas training, including renewables, heating and ventilation and much more besides. An SFA funded provider with the accolade of 'outstanding' from Ofsted for its support of learners, ATL designs training which meets the needs of industry and helps students build an understanding of the subject matter, rather than just preparing them to pass exams.
